The Resort - Prato Nevoso

Prato Nevoso is a beautiful Italian resort perched at 1500m. It has an easy to navigate ski area offering up to 100km of piste filled with sweeping slopes to satisfy all abilities. Although Prato itself is not the biggest of resorts, when combined with neighbouring Artesina and Fabroso Soprana on either side there’s more than enough to keep even the most experienced skiers contented. From village level to higher ground, Prato Nevoso has a wide choice of beginner slopes with wide-open runs allowing for students to develop their turns and build confidence. Intermediates have the greatest selection of runs to choose from with approximately 70% of red-run terrain, including long cruisers and high bowls. Advanced skiers don’t have to travel far with the Artesina side providing a number of challenging slopes and mogul runs.

The Hotel - Hotel Galassia

Key to the smooth running of a trip like this is that ski hire, ski school and ski lifts are all within 50 metres of the Hotel Galassia, which has mountain views plus plenty of on-site facilities. The children will stay in comfortable mini-dormitories and the hotel also has a wide range of on-site amenities, including a games room with pool table and table tennis, TV lounge and a spa suite with jacuzzi, swimming pool and sauna. With two rooms for evening entertainment, an in-house disco and an all-day dining room, nothing has been missed when it comes to things to do off the slopes. Discos, cinemas, ice rinks and pizzerias can all be found nearby and offer excellent après-ski options. In a nutshell: lots to do on and off site with easy access to the slopes and ski school!

Travel Information

The package put together with SkiBound includes flights from London to either Turin or Nice and a coach transfer to the hotel, flying out on Saturday 10th February 2018 and returning Saturday 17th February 2018. The exact flight times and routes will be confirmed in September; the price of the package will not be affected.

The cost of travelling to the airport is not included in the package cost, but ESOC leaders will be available to chaperone from both Cambridge and central London meeting points.

Safety and Leadership

Skiing is an inherently risky activity but there are a number of measures we can take to reduce and manage these risks.

  • All participants will wear helmets
  • Skiing lessons are run by appropriately qualified local instructors
  • Skiing outside lessons will be run in small groups by experienced ESOC leaders on runs appropriate for the group’s ability level
  • ESOC leaders are first aid trained and DBS checked
  • Risk Assessments are prepared for all activities
  • Dormitories are shared with those of similar age and gender and locked from the inside at night
  • High ratio of ESOC leaders (approx 1:5) to pupils in case illness or injury requires extra supervision

The trip will be run by Chris Brickel, the Director of The Exploration Society together with a number of the senior full time team who run the Thomas’s Woodland Adventure and Young Explorer programmes. Chris has run several similar ski trips and assisted on many more as well as leading hundreds of camps and expeditions
