School Residentials

As well as trips open to all, the Exploration Society also runs a range of Expeditions especially for schools. We are able to help make organising a residential trip as straight forward and stress-free for teachers as possible  by handling almost all aspects of the trip planning process including:

  • Publishing a password protected webpage with full details of your trip so parents can access details easily
  • Managing delivery and collection of electronic parental consent forms
  • Tailored activities, accommodation and games to suit your pupils
  • High ratios of instructors to ensure pupils aren’t left waiting around in queues for activities
  • Active involvement in pupil management 24hrs a day
  • Friendly, well qualified and experienced leaders to run every aspect of the trip so you can relax!
  • Creating photo books and videos of your trip to share with both existing and prospective parents
  • Full risk assessments for every aspect of your chosen programme

Below is a summary of our standard expedition types but please contact us if you require a bespoke experience.

  • Ski trips

We run a number of ski trips each year with our partners at Halsbury. We take on the admin burden of collecting and collating details, brief parents about the itinerary, lead ski groups with our in-house ski instructors and organise evening activities, leaving teachers to enjoy the skiing! • Buccaneer Expedition

The Buccaneer is our pirate themed adventure where the groups get to live aboard boats and learn to sail. In the UK these are usually run on the Norfolk Broads but we also run yachting trips to Croatia. The boat crews plan, shop and cook for their boats, learn to drive and sail the boats and play pirate games on the water and hunt for treasure ashore.

  • Sherpa Expedition

Inspired by the hardy Nepalese tribe, the Sherpa Expedition covers everything to do with trekking and navigation and often includes rock climbing and horse riding. We have run Sherpa Expeditions in all corners of the world, from the gentle slopes of the Surrey Hills to the towering Himalayas.

  • Viking Expedition

Canoe expeditions are a fantastic way to explore canals, rivers and lakes. For older pupils our Viking Expeditions are run in Sweden while younger paddlers can travel the length of the Medway in Kent or the Norfolk Broads. Paddling a canoe requires teamwork and communication skills and gives a sense of freedom and independence to the Expedition members.

  • Bushman Expedition

Bushcraft is an excellent way for young people to develop their confidence in the outdoor environment and affords lots of opportunities for learning new skills and finding out about nature. On a Bushcraft expedition, we will typically run workshops on fire-lighting, whittling, shelter building, tree and plant identification, search and rescue, natural cordage and campfire cooking - all tailored to suit the age and experience of the group.

  • Gyptian Expedition

Based on the incredible books by Philip Pullman, the expedition takes place on the Narrow Boats of the Gyptian Tribe. While cruising along the Oxford canal the Gyptian Crew will need to look after their boat, cook their own meals and negotiate the locks, while at the same time caring from their Daemons and avoiding the wicked Gobblers!

  • Smuggler Expedition

A good excuse to go and play on the beach, the Smuggler Expedition allow for coastal exploration both in the sea and on the shore. Smugglers go coasteering and sea kayaking, learn about coastal geography and bushcraft, and use codes, signals and secret maps to get contraband past the Revenue.
