The Exploration Society provides adventurous outdoor education and events to both adults and children. We are often looking for motivated and enthusiastic staff to help run our events – particularly in May, June and September.

We impart core skills, facilitate team bonding and develop confidence in participants through a range of products including one-off events, camps, adventure days and training days.

You would help provide the highest quality of experience to our customers and as part of a team of experienced and qualified instructors.

Sales Manager

The Exploration Society provides outdoor experiences to children and adults through educational and adventurous events and expeditions. We strive for excellence in our field and use high ratios of experienced and qualified instructors to deliver a wide range of disciplines including sailing, mountaineering, bushcraft and canoeing. ESOC is a professional and close knit team with a strong sense of community and a passion for adventure.  The Sales Manager role sits within the Operations Department and will play a crucial role in growing the company and taking us into our next phase of development.

The Role:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic new team member who would enjoy a varied and flexible role with plenty of scope for growth and development. You will report to  and work closely alongside the Managing Director, and your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

Marbella Adventure Programme:

  • Expanding our Mediterranian summer adventure club to new locations and partners

Necessary Experience and Skills

You should apply if: 

  • You learn on your feet and can pick up new systems quickly 
  • You’re organized and accurate with meticulous attention to detail
  • You’re a good communicator able to work well alongside others
  • You’re process orientated and can prioritise tasks quickly and are proactive at getting things done
  • You’d like a varied role where your efforts will have a direct impact on business performance
  • You’re computer literate and a natural problem solver
  • You’re confident and comfortable multitasking and working across multiple departments

Previous experience in sales is required. Ideally in a related industry.

Freelance Expedition Instructor

The Exploration Society is looking to add  to our cohort of freelance Expedition Leaders. You would assist in leading on our Expeditions based mainly in Kent, Essex and Sussex. Energy and enthusiasm will be required with groups of children across a range of age groups. In addition the ability to work well in a small team, take the initiative and be resilient are important. There may be scope for the right applicant to develop into leading days, activities and expeditions.

Requirements

– Experience working with children, preferably in an outdoor setting.

– Experience (or qualifications) in any one of the following areas:

  • Climbing
  • Mountaineering
  • Sailing
  • Paddlesport
  • Bushcraft
  • Forest School

– UK or EEC citizenship or a right to work in the UK

– Prepared to travel to locations across the south of England

Pay and Opportunities

  • Pay is above normal industry rates and will vary depending on experience and qualifications held. We have a generous travel expenses policy and pride ourselves in offering varied, exciting and rewarding work.

Freelance Day Instructor (London based)

The Exploration Society is looking to add a number of Freelance staff to our pool of Instructors. You would assist in leading our Activity Days and Woodland Adventure Sessions, based primarily in South West London. Work will be on a freelance basis, often booked well in advance, all year round. Energy and enthusiasm will be required with groups of children across a range of age groups. In addition the ability to work well in a small team, take the initiative and be resilient are important. There may be scope for the right applicant to develop into leading days, activities and expeditions.

Requirements

– Experience working with children, preferably in an outdoor setting

– UK or EEC citizenship or a right to work in the UK

– Located within the M25, or prepared to travel to locations across London
