First Aid Training 2016

At the Exploration Society we offer many different first aid courses for the workplace and more demanding environments. Please have a look below and to see if there is any training that would be beneficial to you or your organisation. Training and courses can be booked on a bespoke basis, at your premises or one of your choosing, or individually on our set course dates.

With all courses please expect a certain amount of physical activity, you will need to demonstrate CPR and recovery positions along with other first aid techniques. Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

Please bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee will be provided. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

  • RYA First Aid Course

    RYA First Aid - £85

    One day (Minimum 8 hours training) - Maximum of 12 candidates This course is aimed at those who may need to do First Aid in a marine environment. It is a prerequisite for the RYA Yachtmaster and Instructor schemes and those looking to get a commercial endorsement. Topics covered within this course are similar to the EFAW work course but are covered in greater detail and from a marine perspective. There will be modules on

    • CPR and drowning
    • Control of bleeding
    • cold shock and hypothermia
    • head injuries
    • dealing with medical shock
    • seasickness and dehydration
    • medical assistance and advice by radio
    If required, a module on the CAT C medical kit can be covered for Yachtmaster candidates.

  • Emergency First Aid at Work Course

    Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) - £80 pp

    One day (Minimum 6 hours training) Maximum of 12 candidates

    This course is run over one day and is a benchmark certificate for first aid within the workplace. During this course the topics you will cover are -

    • Understanding the role of a first aider, assessment of situations and circumstances to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
    • administering first aid to an unconscious casualty
    • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
    • administer aid to a casualty who is choking
    • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
    • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
    • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (minor burns and scalds, cuts and grazes etc)

  • AED and Life Support

    AED and Life Support - £30 pp

    Two hours - Maximum of 6 candidates

    Automatic External Defibrillators are becoming more common in public places and spaces, workplaces, community clubs and village halls. We offer a course which covers -

    • CPR
    • the recovery position
    • use of the defibrillator
    • requesting assistance and management of the situation
